Keskkonnakaitse ja maastikukorralduse õppetool on oma valdkonna rahvusvaheliselt tunnustatud kompetentsikeskus Eestis, mis tegeleb õppe ja teadustööga keskkonnavaldkonnas. Loome ja jagame teadmisi ning praktilisi oskusi keskkonna ja maastiku kestlikuks kasutamiseks ning kaitseks. Valmistame ette kõrgtasemel spetsialiste keskkonnasektori jaoks, teeme teaduslikku uurimistööd ning töötame välja praktilisi suuniseid valdkonna edendamiseks. Oleme avatud koostööle teiste erialadega ning ülikoolide ja teadusasutustega nii kodu- kui välismaal.
Õppetool ühendab teooria ja praktilised teadmised, pakkudes ettevalmistust kolmel õppekaval: keskkonnakaitse (päevaõpe, bakalaureus); keskkonnakorraldus ja -poliitika (sessioonõpe, magister); keskkonnajuhtimine kliimamuutuste tingimustes (päevaõpe, ingliskeelne magistriõpe).

Research
The Chair’s main research areas include environmental policy, stakeholder engagement and the evaluation of the effectiveness of environmental measures, ecosystem services, ecology, land use and land-use change, heritage landscapes, rural settlement, and regional development. Many research projects involve remote sensing. The Chair’s Laboratory of Biochemistry and Environmental Chemistry focuses on the circular bioeconomy and nature-based solutions. Research activities encompass both theoretical studies and development projects, and the Chair supervises numerous doctoral students. The Chair also participates in several international collaborative projects.
Research Services
The Laboratory of Biochemistry and Environmental Chemistry offers state-of-the-art facilities for environmental chemical analyses and the study of biological processes. The laboratory is equipped with specialised instruments, including an atomic absorption spectrophotometer, gas chromatographs, and carbon and nitrogen analysers, which enable the precise analysis of soil, compost and water samples, as well as substrates used in biogas production.
The laboratory also supports a variety of project-based activities, including the assessment of anaerobic digestion efficiency and digestate analysis. These tools make it possible to investigate and understand complex chemical and biological mechanisms, contributing to the advancement of both fundamental and applied research and the development of environmental protection solutions.

Environmental Protection Students Club
Environmental Protection Students Club (EMÜ KÜS) is a community for environmental protection students at the Estonian University of Life Sciences. It also welcomes students from other fields who care about the environment and want to make a real difference. We bring together like-minded people who want to learn, take action, and make new friends along the way.
Our activities are diverse: we organise lectures, workshops, film nights, hikes, and volunteer work events, and contribute to larger environmental initiatives such as Environmental Week. Our efforts have also gained wider recognition: we received the OLE ROHKEM. Phoenix of the Year Award in 2023 and were named Youth Association of the Year and Youth Project of the Year by the Estonian National Youth Council in 2019.
We collaborate with student organisations and prominent environmentally conscious partners, including Foodsharing Estonia and the Estonian Agricultural Registers and Information Board. Together, we carry out initiatives that help protect the environment while making student life more exciting.
