Rõhu Experimental Station was established in November 1958 under the name “South Estonian Fruit and Berry Crop Variety Testing Station”. The first collection of apple cultivars was planted in 1959, and strawberry trials began in 1960. The station was founded by Olev Arru, who also served as its first head.
On 2 March 2007, Rõhu Experimental Station became part of the Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the Estonian University of Life Sciences. Today, it hosts practical training and organic farming trials.
2024 World Ploughing Contest at Rõhu Experimental Station
On 16 and 17 August 2024, Estonia hosted the World Ploughing Contest for the first time at Rõhu Experimental Station. The event brought together leading ploughmen from 25 countries and highlighted Rõhu’s role in advancing horticulture and agriculture.
