The collection consists of three main parts: material gathered from
Material from the earlier periods is from the collections of B. Gebauer, F. Sintenis & Max von zur Mühlen. The second part, later collection, is mainly compiled by H. Haberman, H. Õunap, M. Heidemaa a.o. The material of Coleoptera has served as a basis for faunistic monographs (H. Haberman, S. Rubel). Also these materials have been used nowadays for compiling the distribution maps of Coleoptera in
The material of Hymenoptera, specially Tenthredinidae, has been the basis of dissertation in 2004 of M. Heidemaa about systematic studies on sawflies.
