Estonian University of Life Sciences maintains a very strong global position in its two main fields - agriculture and forestry - in the 2024 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject, specifically ranked 54th.

According to Rein Drenkhan, the Vice Rector for Research, the fact that we have remained among the top fifty in our key areas for years is a testament to the high level of the university's research and the dedication of its people. 'Such a high ranking position cannot be achieved by chance; it is a sign of our researchers and faculty's consistent, quality, results-oriented and cooperative efforts to create new and socially necessary knowledge in both agriculture and forestry,' said Drenkhan.

As last year, Wageningen University in the Netherlands leads the ranking, followed by two US universities, the University of California Davis and Cornell University. Our good cooperation partner, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), has dropped one place to fourth this year. Quacquarelli Symonds' university rankings are among the most well-known in the world. They have been ranking universities worldwide by subject since 2011. There are a total of 55 subject groups. In ranking subjects, QS considers universities' reputations in the academic world, their status among employers, citations of their research works, the H-index, which accounts for both the volume and the citation of research, and international research collaborations.

This year, 1559 universities worldwide were evaluated. In 2022, the Estonian University of Life Sciences was ranked 65th in the field of agriculture and forestry, and last year it achieved a very high position of 37th. Other Estonian universities, such as the Estonian Academy of Arts, have risen to a maximum position of 150 in the QS subject rankings.
